A Mixed Day

The past few days have been kind of up and down...

Up:  Delicious pork tenderloin for dinner on Tuesday (recipe soon)

Down:  Awful, sharp pain in my right, first MTP joint (in my foot) before/during/after my 4 mile run on Monday.  I've had it before but never this bad.

Up:  I *love* my new desk!  It's everything I wanted...just need the perfect chair now.

Down:  Recipe-fail on some High-Protein Low-Sugar Cookies I was working on.  Brian didn't even want to finish one.  Ugh.

Up:  The weather has been gorgeous, I mean GOR-GEOUS - sunny and 80 degrees.  It doesn't get more perfect.

Down:  Yesterday, for NO reason I can think of, my left ankle (the other one!) started killing me.  Completely out of the blue, sharp stabbing pain with weight-bearing on it.  No swelling, no bruise.  No clue.  Pretty sure I'm falling apart though.

Suffice it to say, I am pretty stressed and upset about my recent foot and ankle issues (on both feet now!).  I am worried about the impact it may have on training for my 8K that's happening a month from now.  The PT in me says "Rest it.  Ice it.  Pop some Advil.  Do NOT run through the pain."  But the impatient control-freak in me says "You'll never get your pace and distance where you want it for the race if you break from your training schedule now."

It's hard to be the "patient" in this scenario since I'm so used to being the therapist.  I guess now I'm getting a little of my own medicine and it's a bitter pill to swallow.

...Because it makes me feel better, more pics of my new desk...

Our office:  Brian's desk (it's built-in) on the left, mine on the right.

Question of the Day

How do you handle set-backs in your training?  How do you keep up your motivation when things aren't going your way?

Answer: Fill your heart with everything that makes you happy...meditate on the things that you are grateful for...realize that there will always be another race out there to train for and a little set back is precisely just that, a moment in time that too shall pass.

Accepting that there are seasons for everything in life. I am in the season of "yay for baby but what about ever wearing clean clothes or fitting into everything I want to again?" season. Not to mention "pale and sick living on the east coast in winter" season... I will run more regularly again someday and some day after that I will miss not dragging a dog or pushing a stroller when I do it.

Thanks Mom, you're right (as usual) :-)

Thank you for helping put things into perspective. You're right about accepting what is out of my control and appreciating the things I have in this moment, because all of that will change eventually, as it always does.

Julia, I love your desk!!! It is BEAUTEOUS. Also, I would suggest that you were compensating with your left foot and that is why it hurts now :( I hurt my right knee two years ago, and started compensating with the left - as a result my left knee suffered for a month while the right one was fine after a few days.

Ugh yes, I'm sure that's part of it. That and I do have some wacky foot/lower extremity biomechanical issues going on....orthotics for my shoes are inevitable, I just know it.
